English 304

English 304 is one of the most fun classes I have had while I have been at Clemson. While you are having fun, you are also learning. One of the most memorable things we did in that class was helping the Foothills YMCA. We had the chance of proposing new ideas to them to try to increase their participants. We had the opportunity to work with the director, which is always a great experience. You have to overcome some obstacles during the whole project, but other than that it was fun. Finding times to meet with other group members was probably the most difficult obstacle. Other than that we did not come across too many other obstacles.
The technology that you use in the class will be something that you will have to get use to for the future. The blogs will give you a chance to state your opinions on different things. Another piece of technology you will use is a portfolio. You will put all of your work in the portfolios. Every single piece of work you do in that class you will have to put in there. It is not a bad idea to keep up with all of your work.
Overall the class was a productive class. All of the things you learn in there will help you in the future when you are in the business world. Having a teacher like Mrs. Rogers makes the class even better. All you have to do is pay attention and complete your work and you will end up with a satisfying grade.

Project

I have learned from working with my team members that it is not easy scheduling for a meeting. I also learned that you have to communicate with everyone about everything you do in the group. The best thing about working on this project is getting to help the YMCA. It is always joyful to help others. The biggest challenge on this project was probably finding time to get the group together. Everyone was so busy but we all made time to meet and get the project done. The thing that I have learned that will help me in my next group project would be to do not wait until the last minute to get everything done.

Miscommunication

There are times on the basketball when we miscommunicate. The coaches tell us that communication is the most important thing on the court. There are many times when miscommunication caused us to give up two or three points. Most of the time it is during a fast break and you have to pick up different players other than the ones that play your position. If the coaches see lack of communication in practice they make us run sprints. That shows you how important communication is in the game of basketball.

Interview

The interviewing process was not as easy as I thought it would be. You had to do more than answers questions from an interviewer, you also had to have a cover letter and resume. Having those two parts was not that bad since we already had to do it for class. One of the difficult parts for me was deciding what to wear. It was probably easy for most people but I was not sure if what I had on was appropriate. The overall process was quite an experience. It will definitely help me in the future when preparing for interviews.

Presentations

There were a lot of presentations that caught my eye but three stood out the most.  The first one that caught my eye was the one on Clemson traditions.  I did not know that Clemson was originally a military school until the presentation.  I had heard a little about how touching the rock came about, but I did not know the background.  The second presentation that stood out to me was the one on Rick Rubin.  This was my first time hearing his name.  I had heard of Russell Simmons but never Rick Rubin. The last presentation that stood out was the one on Dark Chocolate.  I had no clue that dark chocolate was so good for you.  I did not know it was full of antioxidants.  That would keep the cancer away.

Being a Student-Athlete

A lot of students on campus think that it is easy being a student-athlete. I hear people saying that we have it easy because the school caters to us. That is definitely not the case. Being a student-athlete you have to schedule or you will end up falling behind. Every minute of the day is important. During season is the most hetic time. You rarely have time to do anything besides school work or something to do with your sport. If you plan your days you may be able to squeeze a nap in every now and then. Sometimes you just feel like going to sleep and not doing your work. We somtimes see ourselves falling behind due to missing class because of away games. Overall being a student-athlete can tough, but you are the one who signed up for it.

Cover Letter

I agree with the information given about the cover letter. The most important peice of advice that I got from the information was to research the company before making your cover letter. If you do not research the company they will be able to tell. The cover letter should be about the company and not you. Although most cover letters do not get read, they are still important. If the employer likes your resume and is interested in you they will probably look at your cover letter. I think another important thing to do is follow a checklist. I think that you should find a checklist and check off each key as you go.
